Frequent and ongoing assessment is a benchmark of the academic program at Heschel Day School. Students are assessed both formally and informally on a regular basis to diagnose individual learning strengths and needs, to monitor both individual and group progress, and to evaluate the instructional program.
As recommended by the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and the ERB (Educational Records Bureau), standardized testing is administered in the spring to students in grades three through seven. Results are used to assess student achievement of basic skills and grade level standards, utilizing both national and independent norming groups.
Results are mailed to parents with a brief explanation, and parents are invited to meet with administrators by appointment to review individual data along with item analysis and multi-year trends.
